To Deploy and activate VMware HCX, create a site pairing, and use VMware HCX to migrate a VM you can follow the below steps:
Verify VMware HCX Deployment
Create Firewall Rules for VMware HCX
Download the HCX Enterprise Client OVA File
Deploy the VMware HCX Manager VM from an OVF Template
Verify VMware HCX Deployment:
You verify VMware HCX in the VMware Cloud SDDC
In the VMware Cloud console browser tab, navigate to the SDDC summary page
Click the Add Ons tab
On the VMware HCX tile, click OPEN HCX
A new browser tab opens to the HCX page
Verify that VMware HCX is deployed in your SDDC
The VMware HCX icon is visible in the top right of your SDDC tile when VMware HCX is deployed
Create Firewall Rules for VMware HCX:
You create a gateway firewall rule to give access to VMware HCX deployment from any server.
In the VMware Cloud console browser tab, navigate to the SDDC summary page and click the name link for your SDDC
Click the Networking & Security tab
Under Security, click Gateway Firewall
Click the Management Gateway tab
Create a firewall rule to allow inbound traffic to VMware HCX
Click ADD RULE
Enter HCX Inbound in the Name text box
Leave Any as the value for Sources
Click the edit icon in the Destinations text box
The Set Destination window appears
Select HCX and click APPLY
Click the edit icon in the Services text box
Select the services
HTTPS (TCP 443)
Appliance Management
ICMP
SSH
Leave Allow selected in the Action drop-down menu
Click PUBLISH
Download the HCX Enterprise Client OVA File:
You download the HCX Enterprise client OVA so that you can deploy it to the on-premises SDDC.
In the VMware Cloud console browser tab, navigate to the SDDC summary page
Click the Add Ons tab
On the VMware HCX tile, click OPEN HCX
A new browser tab opens to your HCX UI
Under your SDDC, click OPEN HCX
A new browser tab opens to your VMware HCX cloud instance
Log in to the VMware HCX cloud console and download the VMware HCX appliance OVA
Enter your cloudadmin@vmc.local credentials
You can obtain the cloudadmin@vmc.local credentials from the Settings tab in the VMware Cloud SDDC
Click LOG IN
The Dashboard opens.
Under Administration, click System Updates
Click REQUEST DOWNLOAD LINK
If the REQUEST DOWNLOAD LINK button is not clickable, wait a minute or two and refresh the page
Click the VMWARE HCX download link
The download of the VMware HXC OVA begins. The download is stored on your machine
Deploy the VMware HCX Manager VM from an OVF Template:
You deploy and power on the HCX Enterprise client VM in the on-premises SDDC.
Log in to the vSphere Client in the vCenter Cloud Gateway Appliance
Open a browser tab to the vCenter Cloud Gateway
Enter the login credentials
User name: administrator@vclass.local
Password: Password
Click LOGIN
The vSphere Client opens and shows both the VMware Cloud SDDC and the on-premises environments
Deploy the on-premises VMware HCX OVA
Right-click the SA-Management cluster and select Deploy OVF Template
The Deploy OVF Template wizard appears
On the Select, an OVF Template page, select Local file and click UPLOAD FILES
A Windows Explorer Open dialog box opens
Select the VMware-HCX-Connector-X.X.X-XXXXXXXX.OVA file and click Open
Click NEXT
On the Select and name and folder page, enter SA-HCX-01 and click NEXT
On the Select a compute resource page, select SA-Management and click NEXT
On the Review details page, click NEXT
On the License agreements page, click the I accept all license agreements check box and click NEXT
On the Select storage page, select Datastore-01
In the Select virtual disk format drop-down menu, select Thin Provision
Click NEXT
On the Select Networks page, select sa-mgmt in the Destination Network drop-down menu
Click NEXT
On the Customize template page, configure the template settings

Enable SSH
You can ignore the options that are not listed in the table.
Click NEXT
On the Ready to complete page, click FINISH
The SA-HCX-01 virtual machine is deployed to the SA-Management cluster. This task takes approximately 10 minutes
Power on the SA-HCX-01 virtual machine
Right-click the SA-HCX-01 virtual machine and select Power > Power On
The VMware HCX appliance must complete a first boot configuration before the management interface is available. This process takes approximately 10 minutes.
