In a standalone vRO, we have multiple authentication types through which you can control and set access to features and content in the vRO Client.
Below are the two license based authentication modes in vRO:
vSphere
vRealize Automation
Authentication is available only either through vSphere or vRealize Automation
To authenticate the vRO with vSphere you can follow the below steps:
Login to the In the vRO control center (https://vro-fqdn/vco-controlcenter/) with root credentials.
Click on Configure Authentication Provider, under Authentication mode select vSphere, and enter the following details:
vCenter FQDN/IP in Host address
SSO domain in the Default tenant
Select an admin group from the vSphere domain to whom permission needs to be assigned
Click Save
Reboot the node
When you authenticate vRO with vSphere by default vSphere licensing will be selected under licensing.
Login to the vRO client if you notice, Role management option is not available under Administration in vRO Client. You can only see Groups, Inventory, and Audit Logs.
Below is the screenshot from the lab where you can just see the Groups, Inventory, and audit Logs options under Administration in vRO Client.
Later, I just changed the licensing to the vRealize Automation/Suite license under Licensing option in Control Center followed by rebooting the vRO node.
Post which I was able to see the Role management option under Administration in vRO Client.
Below is the screenshot from the lab post changing the license type in vRO where you can see the Role management option under Administration in vRO Client options under Administration in vRO Client.
NOTE: vRO node reboot is required post changing the authentication source to either of the modes. Post which the option will be visible
